(love
death),流行的中文译名是《爱之死》,令人有种“爱的死亡”的误解,没有表达出瓦格纳的意图,此剧的要点在于特里斯坦和伊索尔德之间的爱必须通过死亡才能实现,因此死亡不是爱的结束而是爱的开始,对应了叔本华的观点,即通过死亡脱离虚假的尘世,实现本源的爱。
两个最著名的瓦格纳女神弗拉格斯达德(Kirsten Flagstad)和(尼尔松)Birgit
Nilsson是我最喜欢的瓦格纳女高音,也是唱《爱于死》唱得最好的。当然,凡听歌剧,我不可能不听玛丽亚。卡拉斯(Maria
Callas)版本,可这次我这个超级卡粉得说实话,尼尔森和弗拉格丝达德这两位更胜一筹。卡拉丝胜在感情丰富饱满,表达动人,可这歌的要点不在于人间的爱情,而在于那种飘忽在半人间半仙界那种幻觉:有与无、真与假、虚幻与实在全都融为一体,那种雾蒙蒙的“灵气”被尼女神发挥得炉火纯青。弗女神唱此歌总体可能更出色些,她不仅唱出了“仙气”,也表达出一种张力,更接近瓦格纳作曲的寓意

“未完成”,将这种“紧张”与此剧“永远无法实现”的那种渴望情绪相配,所以听她的版本,是一种得到“催眠”的同时又隐隐约约感到一种“紧张”的效果。
